Professional Biography: Elizabeth Veliz, MBA, SPHR

Elizabeth Veliz, MBA, SPHR (“Eli” as some of her friends and colleagues call her) specializes in training and development and employee relations with over twelve years in the human resource profession.

elizabeth veliz photoPrior to starting Adelante HR Consulting in 2013, this military spouse accompanied her husband – an active duty United States Marine – on his tour of duty in eastern North Carolina. While there, Ms. Veliz worked as the Director of Retention and Recognition in Human Resources for the region’s largest health care system – University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina Pitt County Memorial Hospital (now Vidant Medical Center).

Ms. Veliz was instrumental in improving overall organizational performance through the development and delivery of several leadership development courses focused on effective feedback techniques. She has the unique ability to mediate conversations and manage conflict at all levels of an organization. This gift has made her an effective human resources partner in very short periods of time given her need to move with the needs of the military.

bio image 2 if it fitsMs. Veliz has had several speaking engagements for the State of North Carolina, the VA Peninsula SHRM Chapter, Teledyne Systems and the 2013 VA State SHRM Conference on the topic of feedback and was a contract instructor at Coastal Carolina Community College where she facilitated a wide range of leadership courses to local business leaders, the Marines at MCB Camp Lejeune, the City of Jacksonville, NC, Marine Federal Credit Union and ONWASA (Onslow County Water and Sewage Authority).

Ms. Veliz’s career – however – did not begin in HR. She considers herself a businessperson with an expertise in HR giving her a competitive advantage in her field. The foundation of her business and operations knowledge stems from her academic history having attended and graduated from Rutgers University College in Newark NJ with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and from the University of Phoenix with a Masters in Business Administration in Human Resource Management. This foundation was further strengthened with real world experience working for such Fortune 500 giants as Xerox, The Document Company, ADP and Konica Minolta Corporation. These organizations gave Ms. Veliz the opportunity to learn about Corporate America, the ins and outs of business operations and yes; sales…the first few years of her career were in business-to-business sales.
